Does the warranty cover parts and labor?
The manufacturer’s warranty covers only parts. Customer’s who purchase from Northcoast Mobility will be covered for Parts and Labor.
Does Northcoast Mobility provide warranty service for stairlifts bought from someone else?
The manufacturer’s do not compensate dealers for warranty labor costs. Therefore, Northcoast will only provide warranty service for customers who purchased directly from us.
Does Northcoast Mobility service out of warranty units purchased from another dealer?
We will service out of warranty units purchased from other dealers but only for the Handicare brand that we sell. We have no access to parts for brands that we do not sell. Please note that we are no longer selling Acorn or Brooks stairlifts. We will service what we sold during the 2 year warranty period for new units but beyond the warranty period, you will need to contact Acorn or Brooks for service. The one exception is that we will replace your Acorn and Brooks batteries if you are in the Cleveland, OH area.
Will Northcoast Mobility install used units bought elsewhere?
Due to the many problems that often arise, Northcoast will no longer install used units purchased elsewhere. There are many things that can go wrong with a purchase made from an individual, off Craigsist, Ebay, etc. We often find that stairilits were damaged during the removal, handling, or shipping of a used unit. The issues are often not obvious until after the lift is installed and tested and then customers get upset over any additional charges. Also, used stairlifts must be cut or lengthened almost 100% of the time which adds additional time and expense to an install. There can be other issues also.
What is the price for an out of warranty service call?
The price for a service call is $250.00. That price includes travel to and from your location, inspection and diagnosis of the problem, simple adjustments and repairs that require no parts. Parts are extra and a final estimate will be provided after diagnosis before any work is completed. The $250.00 service call is non-refundable if you decide not to proceed with a repair. Approximately 80% of service calls result in no charges beyond the base $250.00.
Customers who purchased their stairlift from Northcoast Mobility are rewarded with a discount on out of warranty service calls. The service call for customers who purchased from us is $200.00.
Many of our service calls are for battery replacement. Total cost for a service call that includes battery replacement is $350.00 for customers who purchased their lift from another dealer and $300.00 for those who purchased their lift from Northcoast Mobility. Again, this applies only to the Handicare stairlift line. We do not work on other brands.
Can I take my stairlift with me if I move from my current home?
This depends upon the staircase configuration of your new home. Most stairlift models are specific for the left or right side of the stairs. If you current lift is on the left side of your stairs, it will most likely have to be installed on the left side of the new stairs. It also depends upon the total number of steps. If your new staircase is no longer than the old one, then it can be done. If you require a longer rail for the new stairs, it can still be done but will be significantly more expensive as a new rail set will be required.
